By providing support and education services to low-income families, Avance-RGV strives to strengthen the family unit; to enhance parenting skills which nurture the optimal development of children; to promote educational success; and to foster the personal and economic success of parents. The focus of Avance-RGV is community-based intervention which is family-centered, preventive, comprehensive and continuous through integration and collaboration of services.
AVANCE-Rio Grande Valley was established in 1991, as the 3rd replication site of AVANCE. It is AVANCE's largest Chapter as far as geographical coverage and number of individuals served. The Rio Grande Valley region on the Texas/Mexico border includes Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy counties – over 4,000 square miles. Projects are located in over 50 colonias and communities.
