AVANCE-Rio Grande Valley Mother of the Year 2004

 

AVANCE-Rio Grande Valley invites you to join in the festivities ofHavana Nights” honoring Ofira “Sister” Guerra at McAllen Country Club on Saturday, May 8, 2004.

 

“The Mother of the Year 2004 celebration will be an evening of fabulous food and fantastic auction items, with the magic of an evening in Havana,” stated Sandra L. Martinez, Chairperson of the annual celebration.  “We are receiving generous merchant donations for our auction this year, including services and parties provided by some of the Valley’s greatest hosts.”

 

AVANCE is a non-profit organization that works to prevent child abuse and neglect, provides family support and educational services to low-income families.  AVANCE-RGV programs enhance parenting skills, foster optimal development of children and promote educational, personal and economic success. 

 

Ofira Nelda Guerra, better known as “Sister,” has been chosen to be the honored AVANCE-Rio Grande Valley Mother of the Year 2004.  Her life epitomizes that of a caring, nurturing supportive mother; an exemplary community leader and volunteer; a respected business woman; and a role model to her children, her family, her friends and the community.  She married Carlos X. Guerra 29 years ago and they now have four wonderful children – two daughters and two sons. 

 

After earning her bachelor’s degree from Pan American University with a major in elementary education, Mrs. Guerra taught for one year.  Since then she has been the office manager for her family’s business in Linn, Texas, La Muñeca Cattle Company. 

 

Ofira “Sister” Guerra epitomizes the word “Volunteerism” and is always ready, willing and able to help out anyone in need.  She has been an exemplary role model for her family, her church, her community and all of the organizations that she supports.   Sister is very proud of the hundreds of children that she has touched in a positive manner through her volunteer work.  She is not only charitable with her time and talent but also financially supports many charities.
